Amazing London Race

"Follow the clues, beat the challenges, win the race!"

The Amazing London Race is the brainchild of Shawn Bates, the owner of a small home-based business titled EssJay M.E.C.A. (Marketing and Event Coordinating Associates). The goal of EssJay M.E.C.A. is to run special events in the London community to raise funds for non-profit organizations. In recent years, Shawn has raised funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Mackayla's Fight for Sight and Jesse's Journey.

We are currently seeking teams of TWO to participate in the second annual “Amazing London Race” on September 12, 2009 departing from WADA Canada (1925 Culver Drive). This year, money raised will go on to support “Mackayla’s Fight for Sight” and the “Children’s Health Foundation” in support of Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. Please contact me at (519) 453-3711 or by email: londonrace@gmail.com. Pledge forms will be available February 1, 2009 by email. Facebook members who sign up early will get to start fund raising before everyone else.

In August 2008, a new event was held in London over the Labour Day weekend. The 1st annual 'Amazing London Race' took people all around London as they raised funds for Mackayla’s Fight for Sight and Sunshine Foundation. Between the pledges raised, the BBQ & Car Wash held at Rona and the silent auctions at the finish line, over $3000 was raised for these two great causes. We had some amazing weather for the event and each team came with a lot of enthusiasm and a competitive spirit. Everything combined, helped make this the success that it was.

The first event was held on Sunday August 31st, 2008 and Monday, September 1st, 2008. Both days started and finished at Friday Knight Lights with teams departing early in the morning to explore London to complete their various tasks. Racers and volunteers were also treated to a great breakfast served by the owners of Friday Knight Lights, Tim Best and Ann Marie DeCecicco Best (Mayor of the City of London). Without them this event would not have happened... Thank you! At the Finish Line on Sunday August 31 and Monday September 1, we were entertained with live music from Ryan Starkweather & Jeff Shaughnessy. Also, on Monday September 1 we were entertained by the "Janis Effect" and treated with a very special performance with "Canadian Idol" finalist and Canadian Recording artist Aaron Walpole.
